October Give-Away!

Everyone must take time to sit
and watch the leaves turn.
~ Elizabeth Lawrence

Happy October, everyone! What a great time of year! To celebrate the month, I'm hosting a contest as part of the Fall Into Fall Quilters Blog Giveaway. Don't worry: you don't need to be a quilter to enter. Even non-quilters will enjoy this prize...

I'm giving away a wonderful book by Lynette Jensen called Thimbleberries New Collection of Classic Quilts. It is a thing of beauty: hardbound with over 200 pages of quilts, patterns, instructions, and decorating ideas for the home (don't let my poor photography deter you: the book is gorgeous!).

There are projects for all levels of quilting, created in those scrumptious Thimbleberries country fabrics. Heck, even if you don't quilt, it's a beautiful book to look through, and dream!

Here's what you need to do to enter: leave a comment telling me what it is you love about quilts. Pretty simple, eh? If you don't have a blog, leave me an email address so I'll know how to reach you. I'll use a random number generator to draw a winner on October 15th, and the book will be on its way from my home, to yours!

Be sure to go here for a complete list of the blogs taking part. Go to those sites and enter their giveaways, too.

Happy October!

Until next time...

Oh I'd love to win that book! My favorite thing about quilts is seeing all the beautiful ones people make and getting inspired to make my own! I'm getting started on that slowly but surely! Thanks so much! :0)

Hi Pattie,
That book looks just beautiful :)
Although I'm not a quilter I have many cherished family quilts. Each one reminds me of the time, love and effort spent piecing fabric together to create a lasting family heirloom.
Hope your having a great week!

I love your prize!
I love the whole process of quilting, from finding fabric and pattern, cutting, sewing, sandwiching, quilting, binding and labeling. Most of all I love the feeling I get from a handmade quilt...a bib fabric hug. I love to give those hugs away and make two Project Linus quilts each month so I can send my hugs out to kids who really need them.

Wow, that's a great prize. Hmmm, I love that quilts remind me of my grandmothers. They both quilted to keep their families warm. Both were poor. I think that is why I love scrap quilts. Makes me feel like I'm making do, even though we are so much better off today than my grandmothers were. Quilting makes me think of family and I hope someday my kids and grandkids will feel a tie to me through my quilts.

Hi Pattie, thanks for the givceaway, the book is beautiful! I love quilts since I was a teenager but I only got the chance to learn how to do them this year! Thanks for this giveaway and I hope to see your name in my blog´s post too!

In our instant world quilts are a refreshing change of pace. Holding a quilt in your hands is like holding a piece of history. The colors fascinate and intrigue me and the combination often surprise me but knowing the complexity, the time involved and what a true labor of love they are makes them priceless keepsakes for generations to come.

Thanks for sponsoring this giveaway Pattie and congratulations to the lucky winner.

Terry said...

Hi Pattie, what I love about quilts is the feeling they give. Not just the warmth they provide to the body but the warmth they give to the heart. I think there is more to a quilt that just fabric and thread. The quilt spreads feelings of comfort to the one using it. Thanks for the contest. I would love this book. It would be good inspiration! I have been wanting to learn how to make quilts. I love the looks of quilts and how warm they are. I love the creative quilts that I have seen made and the variety out there. I love that you can easily express yourself through a quilt and pass down through family.

Gotta enter this one, Pattie! My kids always told me they liked quilts because they kept you warm but were cool next to your skin...like turning your pillow over during the night! And I couldn't agree more. And the more you use them, the better they get. On top of all that, my paternal grandmother was a quilter and I never look at one without thinking of her.
Thanks for the opportunity! Great idea!

I love the feel of an old quilt. There is something about the softness of an old hand-quilted 30's or 40's quilt that just makes me want to snuggle under it. And I like to wonder who was the maker and what was the reason why she chose a certain pattern, the colors, etc. I make new quilts and I love to go to quilt shows and see all the beautiful fabrics and designs but I have a soft-spot in my heart for those old quilts. Would be happy to be in your drawing so please add my name.

I'm drooling over that book! lol! I have some of her books and they are so nice. The thing I like about quilts is knowing the time and love put into every stitch. I have one of my grandmothers old quilts made out of old mens suits and other horrible material but the decorative stitching that she put on it is gorgeous! It's such a treasure and I wish I could do all those fancy stitches! I must do a post on it one of these days.

I love quilts because they connect me to my past. They connect me to so many of the people I love who are no longer with me and all the happy days that surrounded the warmth they provided. They connect me to my Mama Stringer who made one for me that had a backing of nursery rhymes when I was a little girl and still has an ugly stain from medicine when I had pneumonia. I loved the picture of the dish running away with the spoon. They connect me to my Mama Childree who made me one out of old green and black plaid flannel material when she wasn't able to do anything fancy anymore but wanted to be sure that I had a quilt made by her hands. They connect me to my Mother who was determined to learn how to quilt and continued even when her fingers became twisted like sausages because of psoriatic arthritis. One of her quilts is with her at the hospice. I remember Daddy putting her large quilting frame together for her. And they connect me to my dear sweet Daddy who used to talk about helping Mama Childree and her quilting circle when he was a little boy living on a farm they affectionately called "Need Moore", and watching his Mother who secretly dipped snuff while she was quilting. There is a lot more, but that's more than enough for now. Thanks for such a nice post.

The book is beautiful! I love at least 100 things about quilting - the way it fills my need to create, and the fact that I can make beauty even with no artistic talent; the connection quilts provide from generation to generation, passing along who we were and what we felt; the opportunity to put my stamp on a pattern that may be hundreds of years old, or as new as last week. There are 3. =)

There are many reasons why I love quilting. The first one is that it's a sanity giver. If it weren't for quilting, I would have lost my mind during my divorce. Secondly, I love fabrics and color and I love seeing them come together in something warm and cuddly.

What I love about quilts is their beauty that increases with washings and over time coupled with the legacy they leave. Everyone should treasure a quilt that has been made and given to them. I remember fall visits to my grandmother's when I was a girl. She didn't have central heat or air, so it would be nighttime and the house would be cold when we got there. What at love book? I love everything about quilting and as a beginner so far the best experience for me was how excited my 3 year old niece was to receive her "Mr. Frog" quilt. She just loves it and will keep it for ever and ever and ever. She took her shoes off before getting under it so as not to get it dirty and when she covers her head with it she calls it "going to Frog land".
The saddest part of this is that I was not there to see this as she is in Ireland and I am in California but the story was retold by her Nannie and Granddad. Her Daddy put her on webcam and Skype later that day as she was getting ready for bed and I saw her in her bed tucked under "Mr. Frog". It was just wonderful to see her with it and she how much joy I was able to bring to her from so many miles away.

Quilting for me is like going on vacation to a far away place. I just get lost in my own thoughts when I'm in my own little space quilting. Sometimes I just love sitting there looking at the fabric and thinking what pattern I'll use for it. Never realizing hours have past by and I've stayed up way too late again. Then the best part is when I can give what I have created to someone. For me that is the greatest reward. To be able to give a gift made with so much love and care, makes my feel the best.

What do I love about quilts? Everything! I especially love the wrinkly goodness after the first washing that makes it look so worked in! Count me in!

I absolutely love the name of your blog. My favorite thing about quilting is the bounty of inspiration (books, mags, quilt shops, blogs to name a few) that is available. So many projects, so little time! a.simple.life@live.com

I love everything about quilts! They make great gifts and they're never frivolous--you can always use another blanket, especially in new england!

I love thinking about the thought, love, and time that goes into each quilt. I also love how nice it is to be able to create something ourselves instead of buying everything premade in a store!

What I love is that quilting is my relaxation. My family says if I don't get to my machine every day I become hard to live with.

I love the weight and the feel of quilts. There is nothing like piling two or three on the bed on a cold winter night!

Great giveaway!

Anyone would enjoy this book. My grandchildren think their quilts made by me are an extension of me holding them.

Wow nice book. I think one thing that always tickles my funny bone is that when ever I make anything my husband and boys try to claim it lol. I really like finding a pattern and seeing if I can do it, also seeing how different patterns look with different colors of fabrics.

I love just about everything related to quilting - right down to the hand quilting and binding the quilt. It feels so good to get a project finished.

Love that book - thanks for the give-away.

I love that you can cut up some fabric and sew it back together and make something beautiful! They can even be ugly fabrics and it will be good! Thanks for the giveaway!

I love every part of quilting from buying the fabric to sewing on the binding. I love snuggling under quilts & decorating with them too. Thanks for offering the giveaway!
